Tutorial: draw a frame from grid points

  1. Geometry › Grid Editor: add a level Roof at 4 m; under Base Grids press New and type the X lines A:0, B:6 and Y lines 1:0, 2:5; Apply.
  2. Choose the Member tool. Columns first: with the working plane at Base click grid point A-1, switch the Plane selector to Roof and click A-1 again — the column stands between the two levels. Repeat for B-1, A-2 and B-2 (or draw one column and Clone it).
  3. Plane Roof: click A-1, B-1, B-2, A-2, A-1 with Continue from last joint on — four beams in one chain.
  4. Support tool, Fixed: click the four base joints.
  5. Loads tab › Member Load: wz = −12 kN/m, case D, click the beams. Home › Run Linear Static on 1.2D+1.6L.
  6. Results tab: My with Labels; Home › Windows › Numerical Results for the numbers.

Click a point along a beam with the Member tool to hang a member from it: with the status-bar Physical members switch on the beam stays one member with a joint along it; off, it is split.
